Fish tank gravel pen blanks

Has anyone used fish tank gravel in there pen making? If yes is it any good and have you got any photos to show?

I have the mental image of nerds rope cast in resin. Not sure how I feel about that.

I tried it years ago. It didn't work very well because the color was only on the surface.

Just thinking out loud. Gravel cast in colored resin may look OK but tough on tools and chip outs. Why gravel??? Poop free?

What is it you are trying to say? I did not get it. I do not speak Nerd language. Here are some rope casts for your pleasure. As far as stone I say it would look just fine if you are just coating a tube and clear casting. But if mixing resin and building up where you actually cutting into stone than John is right you will only see top layer and will be tough on tools. Now I have cast sand on a tube and clear cast because that is the best way I found to show off the object casted. Good luck.

Hewunch had it right. It's a candy thing. Nerds around a gummy-type of string candy.

And the uncertainty about my feeling toward the end result is due to my aesthetic preferences for different materials.

It seems to me that you'd have to have a lot of meat on the barrel for this to work. Most don't have the thickness to include something as large as your standard aquarium gravel. I used crushed unikite in this one and it's a lot finer than any aquarium gravel I've ever used.

I once cast little bitty seashells in clear resin. It looked good but was terrible to turn.
