Not trying to shamelessly plug. But perhaps this could help you with your photos (I know its long, but maybe something in here will help):

Thank you. I have worked with oak (not subfossil) a lot before,its basically a "crown wood" where I live, oak wood furniture lasts forever. Also,like half of my turning tool handles are made of oak. I knew exactly what look & feel I wanted to achieve, to make the user feel the real wood when holdin the pen. I have sanded only 120 grit (a lot, to get the shape) and then directly to micromesh set. Finished with mixture of beeswax and mineral oil, as CA would totally ruin it:)
