Today was the first time I could stand for the time duration of standing behind a lathe since December and turning a pen. It was a great feeling having the chips flying and hitting your chest. [:p] It's a long story and the short of it is I can start turning again.

So today I took Bahia Rosewood and making a Cigar pen. I will use a chrome kit. The wood is a beautiful hardwood with medium texture. Its highly figured with rich browns and violet browns. It is overshadowed with streaks of black markings. I will putting a lacquer finish on the pen. Any suggestions with the oily rosewood with lacquer?

Again it was a great feeling to get behind the lathe again!:):)

Great to hear you're back at it Bill. But, it didn't happen without pictures.;) Try wiping with mineral spirits before you put the laquer on. Let it dry thoroughly.

Here's a thought, wipe with lacquer thinner! Not trying to be smart but that's what I use whenever I spray lacquer and it works well.
By the way, lacquer is a great choice for oily woods. Don't forget pics!:D

Have never tried turning from behind the lathe, just always in front of it [:0]

Regardless, so glad to hear that you have been able to get out and about in your shop :)
