Tried my first slab cast today. Let 2 of the 3 colours set up partially and then mixed the catalyst in with the third and did the pour. I'm pretty happy with the results. Just need to get a pen turned from one of the blanks.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I should have said in the original post that the three photos of the rod are just different views of the same blank. I just had to turn and polish one to really see what it would look like.

And George - my wife would tell you I've been hooked on casting for a long time now. I've got the bills and the stash of stuff to prove it! I did use Eugene's post as inspiration to try the pour. I think I could have let the first 2 colours set just a little more before I did the pour.

So you didn't add catalyst to the first two colors? I am just starting casting and am trying to figure it out. Did you use silmar 40 or 41? Alumilite?
Thanks.
Mike

Sorry, Mike. I realized I wasn't particularly clear on that. Yes catalyst was added to the first two and then I waited for them to start to gel before adding the catalyst to the third. I poured colour three into my mold just after adding the catalyst so it was still runny and not gelled and then kind of globbed drops of the other two in.

I used the Castin' Craft resin from Michaels. Unfortunately up here in Canada we don't have access to Silmar.
