So I bought a Nova 1624 as my first lathe about a month ago. But as luck would have it I got sent to NJ for a 3 week training class. My company paid for me to return home during the second weekend, but on the first I was stuck in the hotel.
I was lucky enough to find a Woodcraft about 1.5 hours away and they had a pen turning class on that Sunday. I turned a Wall Street pen and pencil set in the class and got a lot of tips as I was the only one signed up!

Here are the pens from the class

The weekend that I went home I made a few pens with some acrylic blanks I bought at Woodcraft

Had a lot of fun on my first projects with the new lathe!

Excellent Start Shawn,
Very Nice Pens from the Class, thought I don't think the two grooves do anything to Enhance the Pens, those blanks would be Beautiful on their Own.
The Acrylics Pens, you turned at home are Excellent, you Fit Dimensions are Very Good.
IMHO, the Top one on the Photographs, looks more Professional, than the Wasp Waist's.
I suggest that you keep these pens if you can, and use them as a Comparison Gauge in the Coming Months or Years to see the Progress you have Made.
Excellent start, I look forward to seeing more of your work.
Brian.
