Every year on, or as close to, the first as possible I turn a new every day carry pen for myself. I usually try to turn a new component set or a material I haven't worked with before so this year I grabbed an Atrax Ballpoint from Exotic Blanks. I have had these component sets for a while now and for one reason or another keep pushing them aside. This will not be the last of these for me by any means. I have been using it off and on through out the day and am really liking it. The barrel diameter is quite comfortable and there is a reasonable amount of weight to it so you know you have something in your hand.
I haven't turned a wood pen for myself in a while so I picked out an exceptional piece of stabilized black ash burl. I stabilized the blank with the juice from Better Value Vac and it turned very nice. I have been using their resin for a few years now and have always had great results. The pen is finished with Gluboost which has been wet sanded, polished with both Yorkshire grit pastes from EWT, and then given a final polish with steps 4-5-6 of Magic Juice from Stadium Pen Blanks.
