I had a hard time trying to tie down these feathers. The string was the problem mainly my fault since I did not go and get a fly bobbin that was described in the write up. I thought I could us a small weight I had to keep the string tight and it did do that. My problem was when the back of my hand bumped the string bobbin off of the lathe. It is amazing how far they can roll. The string gets really narly when it rolls through a pile of saw dust.

Also not to sure what to do with the overlap of the feathers and the center stem (calamus) of the feather. You can see the white streaks this is where the calamus of the feather is larger on one end and when I turned it down the Calamus was exposed. I probably should of stained them black to hide.
Because of this I left the pen fatter than what I would of normally.
So what do you do with wide feathers?

Same problem here

I have the stem problem also. I have been using guinne fowl feathers. I over lap and lay them flat pretty well but when I get to the end both side stick up pretty badly. If by chance you find a solution let me know.
