I've had an interest in casting and segmenting blanks since the moment I signed up on this site. The things y'all have done are purely astounding to me and I wanted to join your ranks. This past weekend I cast my first blank, which might be the first of it's kind. I've never seen any blanks like this before and wanted to know if I was the first to try this. I casted it with Castin' Craft Polyresin and a page from a book we're reading in school. I had to improvise and use a very crude system for casting (pvc, wine cork, hook screw, large straw, cookie sheet) but it seemed to work out pretty okay.

Good for you .... interesting idea !!! Hope to see the finished pen !! BTW, what's the big hook for ???

Very nicely done. Your not the 1st to do vertical tube in casting. But your the 1st one I know who did it for their 1st cast. Good Job! :good:

Oh, the poor student who reads the book after you - you'll have to glue your pen to the book now! :)

(we English teachers cringe when we hear of books cut apart - even for noble causes!)

I've certainly seen blanks with words, but most of those have been made with stickers or printed acetate - I don't know that paper pages have been used often, perhaps because they tend to wrinkle when you glue them down.

Necessity is truly the mother of invention - good effort on the casting. Hopefully you didn't end up with too many bubbles in the casting; sometimes that can result when one pours Casting Craft without a vibrating machine.
