just finished off the first items from casting using PR. using the molds that i picked up from PTownSubbie last week when we met. By the way Fred, you can bet i will stabilize the coffee prior to casting from now on. man what a nightmare turning without it. Anyway hope you like the outcome. hope to do many more in the future.

Nice work on those pens, Charlie. When I turn blanks like those, I like to continually douse them with CA as I get closer to finished size. You can also use the dust/shavings to fill holes and inclusions.

Nice job on the pens and castings. I just placed my order with Fred and got a message stating the molds have been shipped.
Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing more of the casts.

I tried casting beans last week...the buggers all floated to the top.

So I have a half coffee beans, half PR blank. Betting that as I keep turning it down, I have all PR, no beans.

floating beans

yeah i had a problem with the beans floating also. if you look you can tell that one side is a little thinner with the beans than the other. drilled off center and managed to get pretty good bean count. actually i think the bare area shows a little variety in pattern. did use a lot of ca while turning. next time will be sure to stabilize first like PTownSubbie told me to. never listen do we.

thanks for the good comments and will keep updating as we get into more casting.

Charles,

Give me a call and I will drop off a blank that is stabilized. I would rather have you try one before you spend the time to stabilize the beans.

Glad you like the molds. I was going to ask if you had a chance to use them.

Your pen looks good for a first coffee bean attempt! It is a keeper!

Fred

thanks Fred ill give you a buzz this week. got some others in the mold now as a matter of fact. some clear ribbons and such for special orders. these are definitely better than the tubes like i showed when you were here that day. love the molds. have an idea for special mold we can discuss when your here or me there.
