This is Silmar41 with Blue Green and Crystal Ice mica powders. I chose this color because I heard it was very forgiving. Boy were you all right! I did everything wrong I possibly could - and it still eventually cured. I like it a lot. I will continue to do some other castings with this color and see if I can make a contrasting color mix at some point. Thanks for looking. comments welcome!

If that is your first cast it makes me think it is possible for even a guy like me. I would hope to be able to make that at the end of my casting career if it ever started. Looks good

Nice first cast! Here's the next step!

Go find a needle, spoon and rubber arm band:) This addiction is worse than drugs or cigars. DAMHIKT:)..... "Hey, Brother, can you spare a little interference blue and some Aztec Gold?"

You "ain't" kidding!

I can't believe how fast one can go through a gallon of Silmar41! :)

Thanks everyone. I played it safe with this first cast.

I have heard something about ways of getting any bubbles out after pouring by setting the mold on something that vibrates. I tried setting the mold on top of the ultrasonic cleaner that I use to heat the PR and get bubbles out initially - and I've also heard about setting it on a band saw table while it's running. Wondering what is working for others. I did have some air pockets in these first casts, but it was likely because of the terrible amount of mixing I did.

I hope to do a second cast this weekend with many improvements.

If you are heating the resin that ought to be good enough to get the air bubbles out. I would expect that the heat would cause the resin to kick before the vibration will do anything. When I heat two ounces of resin, I have about 3-5 minutes before it starts to gel. By the time I swirl colors, there is no time for vibration.

Martin, All I can add is AWESOME! OK...I'll once again follow in your footsteps. However, I have strong suspicion that my first try will pale in light of your first one. Regards, Doc

I can say that again...! I buy them (PR) in the 5 x gallon drums, and I have the same problem, they just get empty too damn quick...!!!
