I've only made one other pen from this kit. I'm not a fan of the way the top seats to the barrel of the pen. I cast a logo for the blank and it never seems to seat at the same point to stay centered. Anyway that's not the point of the post. I remember reading on the IAP that someone used an old fire hose to make a blank so I thought I'd give it a shot. Especially since I don't care where the top decides to seat. The outside layer of the hose is pretty thick and I had to cut into the hose to get the blank flush with the bushings. Other than the lines twisting around the tube I'm please with the out come. I have a different approach that might take care of that issue on the next blank. Questions and comments welcome.
