Ever since I switched to Windows 7, Firefox crashes 3-4 times a day, normally when I am on this site. I have the newest Firefox. I have tried restarting my computer and the problem does not go away. I can restart Firefox and bring all the tabs back up but it is kind of annoying. Here is a photo of the error. Any help would be appreciated.

Rob uninstall the program completely and re-install. I just installed windows 7 and Internet Explorer is really slow now, so I made the switch to firefox and now it is great.

Lin.

When I installed the latest Firefox the speed of my computer dropped big time. Turns out Firefox was using up 50% of the processor all the time doing whatever. I uninstalled and switched to the new Windows Explorer. Problem fixed. I hate to admit it but Bill seems to have actually fixed the problems with the older versions.

ps: I've been using Firefox for years and swore by it. No more.

Guess that is what I will be doing then. Bleh!

Be sure to back up your favorites!

copy the following file:

C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\PROFILENAME\bookmarks.html

And put it back when needed.

Or open up FireFox -> Bookmarks -> Manage Bookmarks. Within the MB window click File -> Export and choose a place to save the file.

I have not had any problems with Firefox, but I have converted almost exclusively to Google Chrome. Much leaner and faster. There are a few plugins which aren't compatible with Chrome yet and for thee sites that need these I use Explorer or Firefox.

I vote for Google Chrome....

I have other browsers loaded but mostly to see what my business website looks like on other browers. I used to be a die hard IE user but I just fell in love with Firefox.

Okay - you have the latest ver of FF which is stable. I'm thinking you probably have some add-ons that are conflicting.

Under tools there should be an add-ons menu option that when you select it, you should get a list of your add-ons.

This is tedious, but worth the effort - each add-on can be individually disabled. You could disable all of your add-ons and see if it continues to crash. If it doesn't, you can re-enable your add-ons one at a time to see which one causes the problem.

Alternatively, you could uninstall all of your add-ons and see if it crashes. If it doesn't - PM me and I will send you a list of stable add-ons as well as a few links of some great resources that you can get some "pre-configured" add on packages.

In short - my guess is that you probably have one or more of your add-ons that are conflicting with each other and causing it to crash.

Now with that said - I could be completely wrong and the conflict is happening between FF and one of your other apps. That's why I suggest to either disable or uninstall the add-ons and see if FF continues to crash.

On a side note - www.lifehacker.com has done a number of tests on the various browsers and even though one or the other may edge a bit ahead of FF - it consistently out performs all of the others on average across the broadest range of OSes. BUT - the real test of whether or not a browser is the "best" simply boils down to what you like the most.

If you really like FF, you should check out Thunderbird (email app) as well as OpenOffice (Free Office replacement). They are pretty cool and best of all, they are FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Hope that helps a little.

Lenny; Use caution! Ver 3 uses a true database to store the bookmarks. The bookmarks.html file is only for backward compatibility. You can set an option on the Options pages to make a backup copy of the database in the bookmarks.html file, but copying the bookmarks.html isn't recommended.

Found this out when I made manual changes to the bookmarks.html file and the changes didn't show up in my FF bookmarks... :frown:

This process is the one you should use.

I upgraded two of our computers to Windows 7 Ultimate about three weeks ago, and am quite impressed with the improvement over Vista. My Wife still insists on using Internet Exploder, but I like Firefox. I have had no problems with it, and it seems to be working great. But I agree there appears to be some problem with your installation of Firefox. I would try getting rid of any add-ins, and if that doesn't work, remove Firefox and then reinstall. Which version of Windows 7 did you install?

Scott.

Randy, thanks for clarifying that!
