Wasn't my fire, but a close friend who owns a cabinet shop, who gives me a great supply of wood for pens. Lost his 40K CNC router, and about everything in his shop. I still smell of smoke from running out to see if there was anything I could do to help. Hate to see anyhing like this happen any where and to any one who makes a living out their own building. His had about 3 thousand square feet. Only saving grace was that he had not unloaded all of his hand tools etc from his trailor from a big installation he finished up Friday. At least that job didn't get ruined.
It is very hard to watch a grown man cry as he watches his business burn. I know I would if my shop burned. Any way I am going out tomorrow to see if there is anything I can help him with. Firemen suggested that nothing be removed until the insurance people show up because anything you remove from building they considered as SALVAGED and not covered under your policy. A good thing for all of us to remember in case it happens to one of us or a friend.

The important thing is that nobody was hurt. Buildings can be rebuilt. Tools can be replaced. Maybe he can use his tools that were in the trailer till he gets his buisness back up and running. It good to have people who want to help him. I never herd of the insurance considering what is salvaged.

I'm in the middle of increasing my coverage on my garage, need to make sure that if this ever happens to me I will have no issues with the insurance people(they are a pain).Sorry to hear about it,but everyone is okay?that is what s important.Victor

fire

How sad. It happens far too often.
There are many ways it could have been worse, none of which help what did happen I imagine. Hopefully there was no injury, hopefully there is appropriate insurance coverage, hopefully he will be able to continue his daily business, hopefully it didn't affect his home, on and on.
Perhaps a good time for the rest of us to brush up on safety. Smoke detectors, change batteries regularly, check and train on fire extinguishers, etc. When a fire or emergency occurs it is instantly too late to learn what to do.
I've also never heard of an issue with salvaged items from a fire. I've been involved in the fire service since 1974 and fire departments routinely do salvage as apart of their operations.
Perhaps there is something different with this company or a miscommunication somewhere. I'd check with the company as quickly as possible.
Thoughts and prayers to those involved.
