Hello all, I have a HF 2.5 cfm vac pump and used Minwax hardened to stabilize some test pieces. The pump seized up after 3 uses and there was a red liquid floating on the oil in the window. HF replaced it, and now I am trying to find an input and exhaust filters that will fit this and not break the bank. I am switching to Ultraseal and stay away from any acetone/ketone solvents, but I still want to have filters. I tried a air compressor type filter, but it killed the suction too much. Any ideas or help? Thanks
Dave

Dave,
I use a cheap($12.99) HF vacumm pump which is really a venturi that will draw down to 20 inches of vacuum on my gauge, seems to work good and no need for filters.

I use Resinol 90C for stabilizing my wood (I've also used Ultraseal and they are very similar products) and after nearly 2 years of daily use both of my pumps are running as strong as the day I got 'em. I don't really think it's necessary to use a filter when using these products but by all means change the oil in the pump regularly. I change mine every 10 hours of use (approximately).

I agree with Ankrom Exotics, just replace the oil regularly. It seems that the fumes of the resin gets trapped in the oil. I can't say much about the cheaper pumps. They might have plastic parts that might swell up and get stuck.

Thanks guys. appreiciate the responses. I do haved one more question, where do you get the pump oil? Is it special stuff, or can compressor oil be used?
I have used it a couple of times since I posted and Am surprised at how well Ultraseal works! The maple burl I did is as smooth as if I sanded it, with only cutting it. It was 2 oz when I started and came out 4.3 oz. It was a 4" by 1.5" piece
