I purchased a hand vacuum pump to draw a vacuum on a Mason Jar but the acetone has caused the rubber to no longer seal rendering it useless.

I was working great and aided in the stabilization of some products.

What filter do you guys use to protect your vacuum pumps from the acetone fumes?

Fred -- Pressure instead of vacuum -- the laws of physics are causing the acetone to boil off as you reduce pressure and the more you pump, the more you boil off --

Silicone seals are resistant to acetone, but may not be available.

I'm just a begginer with stabilizing, but I'll admit to doing both pressure and vacuum. The Acetone will boil off, but that'll stop once you reach a certain vaccum level. So I don't leave the pump running once I've hit about 20" Hg. Then I run with clean air to try to remove the vapors best I can. Even so- I'm expecting to eventually have to buy a kit to replace the gaskets sooner than later. Luckily, my pumps a GAST, so that shouldn't be hard to get.

I do use a filter- it's just a cheapie from HF though.
