I have some Pecan that a fellow provided and wants some pens from that particular wood. I found some nice colored figure inside in an area of a crotch in a limb.

The issue I have is there is what looks like a bug trench, or a deep borrowing insect trench inside. looks almost like a large crack running the length of the piece near the center where the good figure/color is. Looks about 1/8" diameter.

My thought, and he is OK with this, is to fill it with sanding dust or something similar and 'stabilize' with CA. Would that work? Any type filler to suggest? I have heard of coffee as filler too?

I'm looking for suggestions.

Sanding dust would make it look more natural. If you wanted to introduce some color you can use PR or Alumilite. I have also seen colored epoxy used. As an alternative you can used crushed stone. You can even use thick CA and leave it clear. Then color the tube for a nice effect.

The sky is the limit.

Is the "trench" hollow, or filled with what looks like saw dust, or more of a crack?
A picture would help.

mostly hollow, some areas have 'dust' still in it. Those with dust I thought about just adding thin CA to harden. the voids are what I am asking about. I'll see if I can post a pic this afternoon when I get home.

I had thought about adding color of some sort, but my 'customer' wants it natural.

Since the customer wants it natural, I'd made some dust from some of the extra wood and fill the void a little at a time, and then saturate with thin CA.
