I've been home sick with a nasty germ since last Thursday. Some thoughtful guy at work just had to come in with his upper respiratory infection and was kind enough to spread it around.

So, I've been eating a lot of soup and stew for the past few days. For soup I'll take potato, and beef stew with lots of onions and carrots gets my vote.

How about you? What's your favorite soup or stew?

Easy!!

If you're sick, Chicken noodle.

If you're feeling better - Beef stew.

In either case, if it's canned, it's mostly salt anyhow and it helps you "cycle" all the liquids you should have been drinking to keep your body "balanced"

Hope you get well soon, so you can go back to work and make up the time!!! MY tax money doesn't allow for "sicky time".:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Got to be black eye peas... My momma used to put that big old pot on the "cool" side of the kitchen woodstove. Toss in some ham hocks, veggies, peas that soaked the night before and just let it cook all day long steaming up the kitchen windows.

Just not the same when it don't sit on that woodstove though..[V]

While I enjoy ALL kinds of food, most of these require a

CAST IRON STOMACH!!!!!</center>

Not "sicky food" for ME!!!

But, then, I'm not in my youth any more, maybe then................... (he drifts off for his nap)

I never new Lee. Your a good old boy. Wouldn't have guessed. Kinda hard to tell when we chat this way. Without hearing your voice I mean.
I like beef stew, but a good bowl of Semi hot chili will do it for me. We are going to have a chili cook off at our annual home owners association Sup_r B_wl party. (not supposed to use the phrase or you can be arrested[:0]).

Jeff,

You must be really bored to post something like this...so not you lol [:p]:D.

I love clam chowder (does that count as a soup?) and beef stew...we (Filipino's) cook it different though. Don't ask me how...I just eat. [}:)]

Get well soon!

For me it's a very hard choice. My wife is an EXTREMELY good cook and her specialty is fantastic soups and stews. Matter of fact it's what I look forward to in the cold weather because she makes one every Saturday. She makes a mushroom soup to die for and her cream of broccoli is a taste of heaven. Her Italian wedding soup is out of this world and she makes a vegetable noodle soup where the noodles are from scratch! Sometimes, for an extra treat she makes dumplings or a homemade bread to go along with it.

As for stew's, I have to give her vegetable beef the nod......

What about chowders? she makes a Manhattan clam chowder that makes me drool just thinking of it and one of her secret recipes is a fish chowder that you just cannot put down.

Dang it! Now I'm hungry....Wonder if there is any leftover soup in the fridge.

Yea, I am a Northern redneck. Momma was born and raised in southern Florida (before it was all tourist) so I have her to tank for it. ;) One of these days I would like to move down to the Blue Ridge Mountians in Virgina. My oldest sister lives down in Fredrecksburg already.

So, IF Mudder should invite you for a nice cup of soup, may want to provide the mushrooms. Seems if his wife picks them, they are

But, I guess, you die happy!!!

Other than the Cajun soup Lance just mentioned, I have to say my favorite soup is the zuppa that Olive Garden serves. Two of the women I work with are Italian, and they don't feel that Olive Garden is very Italian, but I do love that soup!

Ed,

You are definitely consistent. (Note the latter part of my signature line) :D

Good ol' Cajun style corn soup with lots of salt meat, smoked sausage, ham and whole tomatoes.

Lance,

I don't suppose you could send me that recipe? I felt a little better just reading your post!!

Cav, I'll send that recipe over to you tonight but I only know how to make it in 5 gallon batches :D

Jeff- Hope you're feeling better, I actually taught a class on soup prep last winter...5 course meal, appetizer to dessert, all soups. My favorite (and another geography test) feijoada, with southwestern chicken corn chowder a close second, classic French Onion also in the running...now my mouth is watering...off to the kitchen!

Snapper soup (Snapping turtle that is). There is a place in Horsham, PA, "Otto's", they serve the best snapper soup I ever had. Ruth Chris's Steakhouse also has a very good one.

So??????

You think Cav doesn't WANT SECONDS!!!

Finish it off in less than an hour!:D:D:D

Little Amish store way back in the hills has a 15 bean soup that is the best I have ever made. Toss in a ham bone and just let it cook for about 10 hours.

For soup, it's homemade beef vegetable. For stew, there's no contest. It's Bruswick stew cooked in the backyard in a pot of no less than 20 gallons. Everything except the chicken and a small amount of pork came fresh from the garden. Of couse it's best when served with barbecue(pork), cole slaw and fried corn bread.......man I'm hungry for some reason. [:p]

No question, my wife makes the BEST chicken soup known to man!!! I love it with those little orzo pasta (they look like rice). Stew is for when you are feeling well. Hope you are feeling better!!

When I'm not feeling well, LOML's homemade chicken noodle gets me well fast... and I've never eaten a chicken soup as good.

Any other time, I prefer... wow, this is a tough one. I'm a bit prejudiced I guess, but I make a pretty good New England Clam Chowder, a mean real Texas Chili (award winning at that... oh, and the "real" part means it ain't got beans in it;)), and I've never had any complaints about my seafood gumbo.

And I'm w/Cav on OG's Zuppa Tuscana. Yummy stuff! But how can you not like sausage and potatoes?[:p]

I like a good hearty soup, the meatier, thicker the better. NE clam chowder,or a Fish chowder top my list. Those that make your own...please email me your recipes. I would love to make my own vs the Cans.....

credit of course will be given in my notebook of recipes.

I make a pretty good 12-alarm Chili but when I'm really sick, it's gotta be chicken noodle. Of course, I could sure go fer some of that Gumbo y'all mentioned with a side of Cracklin's from The Best Stop! Oooh yeah, hot to go!

Got to put some garlic in the chicken soup if you want it to chase off a bug. ;) Crazy as it sounds... a plate of fiery nachos with jalepeno slices works well for me also.
Chris,
Jalapeno's go with just about anything... omelette, burrito, taco, nachos, chili con caseo, jelly...
