Prices vary depending on where people are and where they get it from.
I bought several huundred BF (board feet) top grade 12"-14" wide thick 4/4 air-dried black walnut for around $3.15/BF including delivery to my home.
We ordered 1100 BF and that price included the freight to truck it halfway cross country last year.

Walnut usually goes for about $6-8/bf at 4/4 - at least from what I've seen.
I've never purchased any - my grandfather paid $50 for a truckload of firewood that turned out to be a whole lot of juglans nigra - so I have more black walnut than I'll ever use - some of it is like 2.5" thick.

To be honest, Walnut goes for upwards of $5 in many places these days. However, that is for lengths greater than 8' and wider than say 6". It looks like you have shorts there, so that reduces the value considerably. Also, the thickness would have an affect as those look to be right at 3/4" if they are under 3/4" then you need to charge less. I would suspect that for shorts with sapwood (if visable on both sides) you would be looking at $2-$3 per BF.

Personally I like walnut and have used it quite a bit. However unless it is figured (which your does not seem to be) the walnut blanks I have seen posted here do not sell very well. I believe my local wood store charges about $5.50 a BF.

Vickery said what I was going to say. I have actually tried to give away (as in FREE) walnut pen blanks here with no takers. There are just too many figured woods around to interest pen turners in plain walnut, which is sometimes hard to finish also. I suggest you just keep and make flat work from it. For that, walnut is the king.

I am probabl;y going back to see the guy tonight or tomorrow night.. I just took a a few of the short pieces.. He had a lot of loger and wider pieces. I am thinking of getting the rest.. I will probably do some ona raffle for IAP as well.. Thanks everybody// Damn wide range of prices thou..

I'm going to be very honest with you.
If you are planning on selling the Walnut here (which has been tried several times) cut what you have into blanks and give it a try before you buy more.
Walnut is a wood that is very easily gotten at a very economical price.

I think I just changed my mind. I just made a pen from the walnut.. Thou walnut is a beautiful wood.. The pens where just kind of plane. Looks like I'll just keep what I have.. Maybe use a couple for a raffle. Plus I am supposed to go pick up those black walnut stumps & burls next weekend..
