Thought I would try segmenting on a small scale. I had some strips of oak trimmed from stair treads. Also had some 1/4 inch plywood from stairway risers. Cut them into one inch squares and glued with Titebond III. Photos will show what I have done so far. Need to figure out a pen style, drill, etc.

The turned to round was plywood and was a challenge. Came out better than I anticipated. Oak squares were alternating grain. I got tearout at first but as it rounded, I increased the speed and came out with an interesting pattern. Due to the size, I'm thinking of drilling for a larger pen than ye olde Slimline.

Stick it on a sierra kit weather a Vista or standard. Always can take apart easily if you do not like it and not waste a kit just a tube.

I'll see what I have in inventory in kits. May need to visit Woodcraft for some extra tubes to replace a disaster this past week.
