I ordered 8 blanks from Bob's Exotic Woods----bad experience. Four of the blanks are not what I ordered and to make things worse, the shipping for 8 PEN BLANKS was astronomical! I paid a total of $15.20 for shipping and insurance. It cost them $4.90 to ship it (small priority box) and $2.25 in insurance----total of $7.15.

They claim the ad said 11/16" but they are even less than 11/16" (the add for these particular blanks is no longer on their website for me to confirm this. They will give me a refund of what I paid for the 4 blanks that are too small but what it means in the end is that I will have paid $52.34 for the other 4 redwood burl blanks (the ones I am keeping.) - $15.20 in original shipping and ins and $4.90 + $2.25 ins in return shipping + $29.99 for blanks. I want to exchange them because at least,
with an exchange, I will get something for the $22.35 I will have put out in shipping and ins for a tiny quantity of blanks.

My experience with most vendors of pen turning products is that they are generally honest and accommodating. There is always an exception. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do?

That sucks! I think that site is a spin off from an eBay seller because the photos look familiar. The prices seem a little high to begin with, and to send you the wrong thing without offering to send you the right thing free of charge is not good. IMO, the mistakes of others should not cost you money. Thanks for the warning. If you want the wood this guy sells, I'd go through eBay so that you have the protection that eBay/paypal offers.

If it is the one in Madison, Indiana - they have a bad rep through eBay.

It is always nice to find a new source, but your best bet and experience is to find a supplier through IAP.
