I found one of my old glass insulators and decided to make a lighthouse out of it after seeing a similar one on another site. The wood is Cherry that was full of Beetle holes and trails and reminded me of what an old stone and mortar lighthouse might look like after centuries of wind, rain and waves. It stands ~11" tall and is 5" at the base. I drilled a hole through the piece and ran some miniature fairy lights up into the insulator with the battery pack in a recess in the bottom. It has a spray lacquer finish on it and the insulator is glued to the top using E6000.

I worked for an electric utility company for 18 years (I actually quit on my 18th anniversary). I see these insulators all the time now in antique stores and I remember back to disposing of hundreds, if not thousands, of these very same insulators. It always amazed me how fast the salvage guys would come and pick them up to recycle.
