A while back I talked with the people that Make Enduro. The sanding sealer is basically "watered down" Enduro. When I described to him what I wanted it for he said that I shouldn't need the sanding sealer. Personally, I use thin CA as a sealer.

I don't know how others do it, but I use both the sealer and the full strength Enduro. The reason is that I harden the wood under the finish with CA glue or use a stabilized wood that has had the voids filled with a sanding slurry of CA glue; and my experience is that the Enduro Sanding Sealer has a better bond with the surface than the full strength Enduro by itself. While I could thin the Enduro finish, I haven't had much luck with using tap water. I assume the manufacturer used something different than just plain water as a thinner.

When asked, I just tell people to use both and forget about it. The finish is worth the extra cost of buying the two parts.

I don't think that the sanding sealer is just watered down Enduro. First, they actually make and sell a thinning agent. They do not say to thin with water. Second, the sealer can be applied under several different types of topcoats as well as finish sheens. Are they saying that the sealer is thinned Gloss Poly, Eurethane, or Acrylic? It can be used under all three or even any of their waterborne colored finishes according to the site.

Just too many unanswered questions IMO to accept that it is just "watered down Enduro".

I use a CA slurry to seal most woods. If I have light and dark woods next to each other, I use Myland's Sanding Sealer to keep the darker sanding dust from getting in the lighter wood. I use it several times during sanding.

We recommend applying a sanding sealer to most woodturnings prior to finishing. A good sanding sealer protects against discoloration caused by finishes, fills the pores of the wood to assure a smooth finish as well as providing a durable base on which to apply the final finish. Cellulose Sanding Sealer is a lacquer-based sealer that dries hard and when used alone results in a matte, natural looking finish. We highly recommend using this sealer prior to Mylands Friction Polish to achieve an exceptional high gloss finish.
