Well all good things must come to an end. As many of you know I was laid off the first of the year. I have since started a new career contracting. This new career is a challange, as you have to do your job, and at the same time line up the next job. This requires that I work about 11 hours a day, leaving little time to do the job of a moderator.

So untill such a time where I can devote the hours required to be a moderator, I will be stepping down as a moderator. Thanks for all the good times and all the trouble. :)

John

Well heck---let me be the first to Thank you for all the work you have done here at IAP and wish you the best of luck with the new adventure/job.

I'll second Gary's well wishes, John. Best of luck to you in your new line of employment, but remember... all work and no play makes John a dull boy.;) So take some time for yourself.

Good luck! I started my construction business in a bad market. The best thing is when houses stop selling and people stay in ther current homes they tend to fix them up. After 25 years of doing what you have just started I was able to retire. My wife could not stand it and that's why I have my present job.

I am sorry if I mislead any of you. I work as a computer contractor. I program and test on a contract basis. The weak market is good and bad, a lot of big companies see employees as expenses and contractors as budget items. So this may be a good time to be getting into this.

As a CFO, trust me, you're both budgeted expenses. The difference is, they can pay you (a contractor) a flat fee and fire you without a second thought. For an Employee, it's Salary + Taxes + Benefits + (if they fire you) severence and possible legal fees if they don't do it right.

A $50k employee costs more than a $60k contractor.

John - Thank you for your service as Mod. Good luck in your new venture! For those of you who do not know John, he is one of the original moderators from over three years ago. He has worked behind the scenes tirelessly. I know how much his efforts have been appreciated over the last 3-1/2 years!

Never knew you were a moderator......ahhhhh, the sign of a good moderator :)
Your time & services have been appreciated, something not said to often for moderators.
Good luck on your new venture, I am sure you will be very successfull. ;)

Best of luck on your IMPROVED career, John!!!!

(hopefully, time will prove this an accurate statement!)

Thanks for the years of your time - stay active on the forum!!!

Thanks everyone, I am working from home so it is quite a unique experiance. I am putting in the same amount of time as I used to, but getting more done and getting paid for every hour I put in. The only problem is that you do not get money whe you take time off.

John, I have absolutely no idea of who you are. But people like yourself have made it possible for people like me to join in and learn. So thank you for what you have done for me and the rest, and I wish you the best of luck with the new job choice.
Take care,
Johnnie

Let me add my thanks! John has been with us for a long time (member #327!) and has helped the mod team through many sticky situations. Being a moderator is tough, and it limits your enjoyment of the forum - you need thick skin, an even temper, you have to keep your opinions to yourself, someone is always unhappy with you, and the only time you really get thanked is when you step down! Sounds like a great job, doesn't it?

Unless my memory is failing, John is also one of only two members I've ever met in person! (Man, I need to get out more!)

So, THANKS, John. Hope you hang around as much as possible.

John, Thanks for putting in the time you have. I was a moderator for a while as well and sort of had the same sort of situation you are having now, So did what you are doing, stepped out. I would have said down but that has a negative sound to it. Being a moderator is not a career, it is service and I think it should rotate around a bit. I certainly gives an whole new experience of the group. Good luck with your job.

John, Thank You for your time and dedication to the IAP. I am sure that you will be missed UNTIL your return... and I hope you do come back.

Best of luck and success on the new endeavor.
