Babe Ruth hit his 714th and last home run in 1935, retiring later that year from baseball. Amelia Earhart took off from California for Hawaii on the first such solo flight by a woman; Nazi Germany adopted a flag with a swastika; and the first animated full-length movie, Snow White, made its debut.

So, too, did Kodak's iconic Kodachrome film, opening a vast, colorful world to photographers everywhere. Now, 74 years later, it represents less than 1 percent of Kodak's revenue, only one processor in the world can develop it, and it will be made for only a few more months.

When 2009 ends, so will Kodachrome.

Is the pen next?

I was just mourning the loss of Kodachrome. Goes pretty well with the other "old guys" thread currently active.

RIP KR 135-36

I don't think the pen will ever die...

Now checks on the other-hand... GET THEM OUT OF HERE (All you behind the 80 year old lady at the store, who doesn't even start to write the check until the total is announced, know what I mean). Geesh!

When I think back
On all the crap I learned in high school
It's a wonder
I can think at all
And though my lack of edu---cation
Hasn't hurt me none
I can read the writing on the wall

Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, Oh yeah
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama don't take my Kodachrome away

If you took all the girls I knew
When I was single
And brought them all together for one night
I know they'd never match
my sweet imagination
everything looks WORSE in black and white

Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, Oh yeah
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama don't take my Kodachrome away

Mama don't take my Kodachrome away
Mama don't take my Kodachrome away
Mama don't take my Kodachrome away

Mama don't take my Kodachrome
Mama don't take my Kodachrome
Mama don't take my Kodachrome away

Mama don't take my Kodachrome
Leave your boy so far from home
Mama don't take my Kodachrome away
Mama don't take my Kodachrome

Mama don't take my Kodachrome away

As I sit here overlooking my $45,000 or so processing equipment and fully equipped printing lab .... I ponder my belly button dust and wonder should I even ask the following,

Does anyone need or even want a Kodak Royal Print processor ... reasonably priced to the first inquirer! And, yes it does indeed work! Oh yea, there's also a Hope continuous film processor in there as well!

I'll even throw in an entire bunch of Nikon cameras (non-digital) and many lenses!

I sold off my Minolta gear while I could still get something for it. My x570's, a 7xi, 500si, and huge bag of lenses got me almost what I paid for them all used. Whew.

I still need a DSLR one of these days. I need to sell a LOT more pens. :(
