I was playing around in Photoshop the other day, and it led to this:

I used to enjoy doing that years ago. I got started on PS back when it was at 2.5 and free with a particular scanner. But I PAID for it with the next iteration at 3. After that, I purchased every other upgrade.

My girls as teens became fairly proficient on it and still are today.

Great looking work. If you could only make them into 3D and make pens out of them!

This is actually a very quick and simple transformation which sometimes yields quite interesting results.

For example, this photo:

becomes:

attachment.php

This one was rather predictable , but some outcomes are difficult to anticipate.

But first you have to have that perfectly focused, beautifully composed original photo. Beautiful!

But technically, the photo is flawless. Perfect focus, great composition. You are a superb photographer. (I was a professional photographer back in the day of film. Wish I had today's technology back then.) I was a horse show photographer, but also did some weddings and product photography. Seldom use anything but my smart phone these days. I have a digital Canon with lots of lenses, but seldom dig it out.

If you want to try the effect out for yourself (in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements), here's how:
  1. Select an image. For example, I chose the one below. Note that this photo is square. If I had started with a rectangular image, the process would still work but the result would be elliptical rather than circular.

    attachment.php

  2. Click on Filter -> Distort -> Polar Coordinates, and select "Polar to Rectangular". That results in:

    attachment.php

  3. Click on Image -> Rotation -> Flip Vertical, which yields:

    attachment.php

  4. Click Filter -> Distort -> Polar Coordinates and select "Rectangular to Polar". That produces the final image:

    attachment.php
Which I think of as "How spiders view the world".

I hope that's interesting,
Eric
