Carved an Angel flying around blowing a trumpet. Experimenting with a series of Angels to decide which one will be the design I use for Christmas presents this year. I'm pretty certain that the dove carrying the olive branch will be carved on one side and an Angel on the other.

Carved a Hawk in flight... I wonder if I should carve some likely meal on the other side...

Thanks, I continue to have fun at this, and will soon make a "production" run for Christmas presents

I've heard of a product called a Turbo Carver that can be used for carving eggs and other things. Is that what you use. I've been toying with the idea of getting one myself. I doubt if I'd be able to do anything as nice as your eggs but I can still have fun trying :)

The Turbo Carver is quite similar to the tool I use. I use an NSK Presto. Both are oil-less micro turbine air tools that use 1/16" shank burrs. They both operate in the 320,000 to 400,000 RPM range. The burrs are from the dental industry, with the go to burr for this sort of carving being a 699L. There are many other burs for texuring.

The Presto is designed for the industrial / dental market, the Turbo Carver for the craft market. Both have their avid fans and I suspect that that the Turbo Carver is a fine tool. I know the Presto is excellent.

I doubt that I have the sort of amazing innate gift at this that folks like Gary LeMaster, Pinh Pho or Joey Richardson have, so I suspect that most reasonally coordinated people can get results similar to mine on an egg with a little practice if they really want to.
