Lou,

Are you taking measurements off the picture, or do you have a reliable source? (I know I didn't tell you, so can't be ALL THAT reliable!!)

I just took some rudimentary and erroneous measurements on my monitor and extrapolated. Further examination of a printed version indicates that this may be 5/8"-3/4". Now it looks like it's worth a call!

I was going to say 1/2" to 5/8". I considered stocking it, but having it shipped from the UK is expensive, as is the material. I just couldn't justify that. This price sounds incredibly cheap. I wonder if they have other colors.
Rob

Is it brown? Hard to tell in the picture.
I pretty much have given up on ebonite.it , I send him an e mail every month, but have yet to see a sample.

Well, I asked for the diameter and the color and here is their, very informative answer:

We do not have that specific information.

Anthony, maybe you just have to make him "an offer that he can't refuse"[;)] I've had no response from him either and perhaps he doesn't want to be be bothered with IAP 'potential' business.

I pushed him to get a batch of stuff to bring to the Pen Rendezvous and that didn't work.
I hate to say it. but dealing with Italian companies, you work on their time schedule, which is not
that swift.

I found another science site selling somthing similar and it was 12mm in diameter.

I have a question for the technically savy people here. Is there a difference in the ebonite we buy from , say pipemakers and any other source? Reason is that I work in the rubber industry and we have available a hard rubber called ebonite. It is uncured, meaning still flexible until it is put through an autoclave. I have been trying to get the owner of my company interested in getting some but since it comes in a roll about 45 feet long and 4 feet wide at a cost of about $15.00 sq. ft he is not to eager for obvious reasons. If I were able to get a sample it would help but haven't yet. Just curious if I am wasting my time. almost forgot, it is .25" thick so it would have to be plyed up before curing it which is no big deal.

Randy,

sounds like you should approach this from the other end.

Take a pen to work, with the parts kit and tell your boss there is a market for the outside material, and people have been talking about ebonite. Ask HIM if this is the stuff and if he could create it in colors and sizes that would be suitable.

If there is a profit potential, HE should be doing the research.

Tell him YOU could help him reach the market (by posting on-line) and he should try a small test batch and see how it goes.

Good Luck!!

well Ed I don't think there is enough of a profit in this for him to worry about. We are extremly busy and this would be peanuts compared to the accounts that he has. By the way we don't manufacture the rubber we only apply it. It is purchased from a place in Canada. I think I will gather some of the other types of rubber we use and try them all to see if the are close.

There MUST be a world-wide market for pen material or I would not be buying it from Europe!!!

HOWEVER, IF HE IS HAPPY, DON"T BOTHER HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's rare, these days, to hear of an American manufacturer that is doing well - keep that JOB and let HIM find a way to make money. Sounds like he does that WELL!!!!![:D][:D]
