To those who use eBay...do you leave negative feedback when you are not satisfied with your seller/buyer? Or you just leave it alone in fear of receiving a retaliatory feedback?

I've had an experience that no matter what I do, the buyer wants more. He left me a negative and I did the same because I feel I did all I should. He actually wants to double dip...claim the insurance and I pay him too. INSANE!

Another instance, I left a negative to a vendor who sold me dead plants. Sent him multiple emails but got no response. In return he gave me also a negative feedback.

I don't think I deserved both but won't take it lying down.

So are you like me or more passive (to remain 100% perfect)?

I depends, personally I normally let it go, or wait until they've left feedback and then leave whatever I think is "fair." You can always put in a complaint against them with Ebay. I see it more and more. I have 100% so, I might be a little more careful as I dont' want to see that changed.

My reasoning, hopefully my feedback will help others or hope the seller will wake up and get their act together.

I reviewed and read a lot of "NEUTRAL" feedback on the plant vendor that are very similar to my case. If they gave him the proper feedback (negative as far as I am concerned) I probably would have avoided that seller.

Sock it to them Dario. I leave feedback that is true not a white wash. When you read the blurb at the point you put your itemized feedback it indicates that the sell can't see it.

Also,
Dario,
It might be a moot point.
I understand they have changed their policies so that a seller can no longer leave negative feedback on a buyer who actually paid for the item. Their reasoning: The buyer's entire obligation in the transaction to fulfill their side of the bargain is to PAY.
It will be interesting to see if this policy lasts long unchanged as high power sellers carry the most weight when dealing with ebay.

1) if I buy something, I never leave feedback until the seller does. I'm not here to pump up their rating without anything in return.

2) If I sell something, I leave feedback as soon as they pay me. They did their part.

I recently bought something that I though wasn't as described. I left a positive, as I got an acceptable product, but on the itemized I left a poor mark on the description.

Dario,

I had 100% until I left a negative for a seller who sold me two DOA DVD Drives and would not try to correct it. I immediately received two negatives. They were Ebays #4 seller at the time. The feedback I left was 17 pages back within 24 hours. The negative they left me was on my single page for over a year. They had over 20,000 negatives, and I should have known better, but they offered a guarantee... big deal.

Ebay will always side with #4 on their hit parade because they make so much money off their sales... even the 20,000 bad ones. Why protect the small time buyer?

Some people have a buying account and a selling account. They don't care about getting burned on the buying account because it doesn't make them any money. They work hard to protect the selling account because 100% feedback generates more money.

I only buy from 99.9-100% sellers that offer a satisfaction guarantee... unless it's a small inconsequential item I can afford to be burned on.

I never leave negative feedback for fear the seller will do the same as retaliation. Bill may be correct in the new policy, I don't know. Since most of us do some selling also, even one negative in a hundred can hurt, I don't want them.

Dario: IMO, eBay is pretty heavily weighted in favor of the seller and retaliation negatives are pretty much a way of life. It is a very instinctive desire to post comments that will protect future buyers from disreputable sellers; but you need to CYA first. As a buyer, I never post feedback until after the seller has posted his. I feel like the buyer has met the terms of the auction when he pays for the item while the sellers obligation is not met until the item is delivered in the condition advertised to the buyer. That philosophy translates to seller first for feedback.

I guess that holding your feedback until the 23rd hour of the 59th day will work; but that is more trouble than it is worth to me. It seems like people pretty much play a matching game so I will sometimes leave a very painful neutral feedback. If I get one in return, that I can live with since it doesn't really affect your "number". (I do read read neutral comments of vendors I am thinking about buying from.) And finally, a buyer's only real protection is PP or the CC company. Filing a claim with either will usually get your money back as they seem to favor buyers. It is a bit of an inconvenience and can take a while; but it is your only real insurance.

BTW, you want to avoid those auctions or BIN situations where the item is very cheap but the shipping cost is large. If there is a problem and you ask for the guaranteed refund, you will get your dollar or two cost refunded; but "WILL NOT" get back your shipping. made that mistake once; but never again!!

I sold quite heavily on Ebay for a while and always worried about the feedback issue. I received one negative that said "ok". That was it, but it was a negative. If I wanted something from a seller with a high approval rating, but not perfect, I read the feedback. A lot of it! There are some customers who read what they want to see. I always tried to accomodate if I could and found that the 99.8% positive feedback never affected anything to my knowledge. I had multiple repeat buyers. Be honest, fair and if you mess up as I did, ask the customer what would make them happy as you acknowledge that the mistake was yours. The problem often disappears or is lessened to the point where the remedy is acceptable to all.

I have over 300 100% positive feedback at the moment. I guarantee everything I sell to be as advertised but will refund $ if someone is not happy. It's happened maybe three times.

There have been a few bad experiences with sellers though. Even though I may send pretty pointed emails or even filing a claim with PayPal, I have never given given anyone a negative or less than 100% feedback.

But I will describe the transaction like "even though there was a problem with ............the seller and I resolved it and I appreciate his/her communication" or something like that.

With the latest ebay feedback being from the buyers only, there is no reasonable option to respond to buyers negative feedback. Some ebay sellers are reporting what amounts to blackmail from buyers, threatening bad feedback unless .... Given even 4 or 5 unfavorable feedbacks from buyers, ebay will kick the seller out. They have done that to hundreds maybe thousands.

I and thousands of former ebay sellers have joined http://www.powersellersunite.com and initiated the February listing boycott. Because of the bad feedback rules as well as increased fees.

I am now transferring my books to Amazon and other stuff to a few other sites. Ebay is the big dog at the moment but it was the "little" guys who made it big. Ebay is a multi billion dollar a year operation.

Pretty much like this. I don't like the system ebay has. The only thing the seller should be able to provide feedback on is how well I pay.

However, that being said, I know that sellers need protection from some people out there. (Like the person you're dealing with now.) It's never going to be good, because there is always that bad apple.

I don't go on there now because I was on there primarily for wood. I like what I get here so much better. (I also don't have you stealing that gorgeous piece from me at the last minutes ;))Also ebay pretty much stopped being a place where you can get good deals.

Sorry. [:I] But minutes? It it was me, it should be last 7 seconds or so. :D

If it is any consolation, I almost don't buy wood there anymore because I have more than I need. It is the reverse actually and I am unloading some right now.
