I just bought a new Eastwood powdercoating system. The Eastwood colors are a bit "pricey", so I was wondering if anyone here had used this gun with the less expensive powder coat paints.

I don't want to pay a fortune for paints, but at the same time, I don't want to screw up my new powder coating gun.

I've sprayed Harbor Freight powder (cheap) through my Eastwood Hotcoat gun without any problem. I just blew it out thouroughly before switching back (from red to clear). I'd be more concerned with the quality of the powder on the painted surface than in the gun.

I have had mixed experiences with the harbor freight powder. Most of them have been bad. I use the hotcoat system from Eastwood as well.

The critical thing with powder is that it MUST be kept dry. If it gets at all damp, it will clump and not spray right. That said, a powdercoating gun is not like a paint gun. You can't really hurt it with low quality material. You might have to take it apart to clean it, but that isn't too tough to do.

Any recommendations on decent powder coat paint for less than $10 per pint?
From what I've seen, powder paint is typically sold by the pound rather than the pint. Depending on what color and quantity you're looking for, you might find the best price at any of: www.eastwood.com, www.columbiacoatings.com, or www.caswellplating.com, all of which are good quality powders. I can't really recommend any particular lower price powder, as the one I generally use is among the most expensive.

Eric
