Well after an hour riding around lost on Beltway 8 in Houston I finally found a Woodcraft and picked up that lathe. At a great price of 1799.00 I couldn't pass it up.

Thanks to everyone who has given me their thoughts on the lathe. Not one person had any negative thing to say about it.

On another note I stopped at a Woodcraft in Houston on FM1960 road and they were out of lathes. He said he sold 7 of them and that he could backorder one for me for the same price. Not sure if that was true or not cause they only had 2 mini Jets on the floor and not another lathe on display.

One of the employees said I should check at the other Woodcraft on Sam Houston Parkway. Another employee standing there said he'd look up the inventory of the store to see if it was available and when he did he said there were none in either Texas store.

I said I really wanted that lathe and asked him to check inventory on the lathe in Mobile, Al and he hesitated for awhile and said let me check the other Houston store again and sure enough he said they had one left in stock and gave me the address.

I'm wondering if he was just giving me the run around until I told him I would be travelling to Mobile at the end of the week to purchase one. He may have not wanted his competition in Houston to sell the lathe cause he wanted to order it for me instead. I guess he decided that it would be better for one of the Texas stores to make the sale than a Woodcraft in another state.

Congrats on a a great lathe. Sometimes it pays to push a little.

I think your avatar is disgusting! I can't get any over here!

the store in san antonio told me they would have to order mine too and would be here on a friday, prepaid, if i ordered on a monday. i live 2 hours away so thats 8 hours travel (2 trips). i called woodcraft and ordered one direct. got delivered to my doorstep on a thurs, and the delivery fee was way cheaper than the taxes would of been. have only had it on maybe 20 minutes so far but a great lathe!

It's still in the back of my truck. I won't be home until tomorrow then I have a daughter getting married on Fri so I probably won't even unload it until Sat. or Sunday.

Hank the crawfish season is just around the corner. I know you having lived in Lafourch Parish you've had your fill of them :eat:

I was going to make a stupid joke and say the lathe has priority. But, I have a daughter and remember well her wedding day. Few things in life take priority over that event. Congratulations.
Do give a report when you eventually get the lathe set up. BTW, what are you using for a base/stand?
