I have a couple of projects coming up that I need a DVD burner for. My puter has a dvd player and a cd burner so I'm going to buy a dvd burner. I can't afford one for $300 or $400 and I don't want one for $40 or $50. I know that if I ask the question here someone will know what I need, so what would be a good one to buy? Internal or exturnal? I thank you, in advance.

There are a lot of good DVD burners out there that are around the $50 range. The thing I looked for was dual layer, 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 16X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 5X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 24X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM.

One of the newest things is LightScribe with Ram Burner.

Those are just 2 that I looked up real quick. I have the first one listed above, and it works great. Hope this helped you out a little.

I have a couple of them on my computer. One is a Lightscribe which I like because I can burn the titles, graphics, etc right into the media surface. Very good looking. But slow.

I have an external Memorex because it is dual layer. Both work fine. Lightscribe DVD burners are very popular in the illegal software sharing world because they are easier to hack and get them to do things to bypass the copy protection schemes that only hinder honest folks.

Thanks guys, you have helped a lot. I hadn't even considered the NEC but the reviews were great. I have considered the Memorex but its reviews weren't all that great. I guess I'll have to sleep on it. Is your memorex very noisy? That was the most complaints.

Hey Tom,
I have the NEC from New Egg and I love it. I have burned over 200 DVD's in the past year with it and it gives great quality. I just received another 200 blank DVD's today, so back to burning! You will not be disappointed with the NEC brand.
