Still new to turning, and like anyone caught up in this hobby and can't get away...you spot every pile of wood recently cut down.

Long story short, I know of 2 HUGE Elm trees that are scheduled to be cut down... do you dare turn wood that has Dutch Elm disease?

My gut is saying no...

Shouldn't be a problem to cut, saw or turn.

By the way, your profile lists you as not being born yet - Nov 2008.

Durch Elm is a fungal infection spead by the Elm Bark Bettle. Once it's dried, any fungus is killed, so you should be fine to turn it.

If fungal infections weren't managable, we'd all be dead from the spaulted wood we work with.
