I'm thinking it's some kinda palm, but it was unmarked in an assortment. It chipped severely until I was able to get the skew on it. Can you ID it for me? I put a little CA on one end in case it might help.

That "dunno wood" looks pretty good to me, even tough I can't help you with the name of it and or is it is or not some sort of palm. Some fibers on it resemble the end grain of the palm I have, but the colour...! well is a little too red for anything I know or seen in the palm family, OK I admit, I know bugger all about the palm species around the world...!:confused::frown:

On those sort of blanks hard to shape, there's where the "stepped" sanding disks on a 4" grinder do miracles, you will get in withing sanding stages in less then 30 seconds! seriously..., no chipping, no tearing, no blow outs, just pick the grit that will be safer to use (hard or soft woods) from 40 to 120 grits and you will never want to use anything else again...!:cool::biggrin:
