Have you looked at OpenOffice?
OpenOffice.org is a multiplatform and multilingual office suite and an open-source project. Compatible with all other major office suites, the product is free to download, use, and distribute. To help build the community, join us.

Free is better than cheap. Especially since it is Word compatible.

OpenOffice would be my recommendation as well. I use Word regularly at home and at work because of the nature of my work, but otherwise I'd probably switch to OpenOffice. I know several people who use it and love it.

I agree, not sure about the site you listed as a lot of those type of sites sell "oem" software that may not be totally legal.

Open Office is my choice for non MS suite.

Another option is Star Office 8.

It costs $69.95 and files can be interchanged with Word users with little problems.
If interchanging files with Word is not an issue then Open Office is the way to go.

If I recall correctly, Star Office is the same as OpenOffice, only difference is that Star Office comes with some sort of support. However, with the large OpenOffice community, you'll get plenty of support if you have problems with OpenOffice. OpenOffice can also write PDF files, which is handy.
