The limit in Indiana is 15 a day. On the 9/2 two of us got that in about 45 min around 8AM till 8:45. Last year I had the Pastor of Men's Ministry at church and his wife over for a "dove feast". Wasn't sure how it would go but it was gonna be fun. They ate every one we fixed and were looking for more. He's already asked me if we're going to do it again. Go get em.

Oh yeah, I was a keen shotgun hunter back in Portugal, I have not shot doves with such firearms for about 23 years, I would give a rib or two for a dove and pigeon hunt in Argentina...!:wink:

So, you are/were in a paddock shooting doves and posting live pics of it in here...??? damn...! this new electronic age is bloody scary, don't thing I want to get involved with it, I literally and absolutely hate phones...!

No, why didn't we get pics of the doves after you got your "bag"...???

Enjoy it as long as you can, you will regret if you do not...!

Cheers
George

Last time I had dove was back in the 1980's from my local gunsmith.

I never did get into that type of hunting....

If you want to put in on track for pen turning - just say you are working on a new shotgun round magic marker / pen.

my wife feed birds we probably have 30 or 40 doves in our front yard, I'm surprised there hasn't been any shooting yet, usually it starts about sun up and doesn't slow down, I have a big field of Sun Flowers, and corn fields all around me.

not .22

1hour and 15 minutes later and it is all over! A limit of a dozen now ready to clean!

I take it you were not using a .22 and wing shooting them in the head then?? Around my house some times I think I could fill a limit throwing stones at them...but we only have mourning doves here ( did see one white winged one this year though...but this isn't their range) I guess you've got a couple of other varieties.

Are you actually hunting 'Doves' or is that slang for a bird you can actually eat, like a Canada Goose or a duck?

Yep, Doves. Mourning Doves and Whitewing Doves! They are quite edible and are the most abundant game bird in the US so hunting is necessary to keep their populations in check. They are super when you breast them out, stuff the back of the breast cavity with feta cheese and a slice of jalapeno pepper, and then wrap in bacon and grill. You can't hardly beat it!

I know you are joking but just for information sake, it is illegal to shoot migratory game birds (dove included) with any gun other than a shotgun. It is also illegal to hunt them over any bait such as a feeder! Oh yeah, it is also illegal to kill them by throwing stones at them! These are federal laws so not unique to just Texas.

Learned something new today - never heard of eating a dove!!

Luckily, up here we have a ridiculous amount of geese and ducks, so I won't have to worry about ever trying it....until I visit Texas, that is! :)

Just a bit too out there for me - although it sounds pretty good the way you describe it, Curtis.

Do you have Canada Geese, snow geese or the like down there too? I thought their migration brought them down toward Texas...

Curtis, I think you and your I phone are having way too much fun. You have to be the most techno savvy hunter in these parts. By the way, when is dinner? Doc

Sounds like great day Curtis. I went Saturday night as a side trip on the way to Texoma for an early morning striper trip (my first striper trip). Needless to say, it was a great weekend: dove in the evening, fish in the morning. If it had only been deer season, I could have completed the trifecta.

Yup

All true....including the chain jerking. I hunted them years ago and used a .410 single barrel. It was fun but I had even more fun hunting woodcock...

For whatever reason I could never hit ruffed grouse or ring neck pheasants (using a 16 gauge and the a 12 gauge, when I started using a 20 gauge I gave up and stuck to rabbits) --- I only ever got one ring neck and I never got a grouse. To make matters worse my dad was a great wing shot and seldom missed a grouse or ring neck....and he was 62 before I could hunt.
