Anyone had their dog come up lame in the hind leg? My 9+ year old lab mix launched off the back stoop of the house (2 steps high) after a rabbit last night, and immediately came up lame. She will barely let that hind leg touch the ground. I let her suffle around for a little while, but when I took her outside to do her "business", I could hear joints popping. I took her to the emergency vet clinic. He said she has good range of motion in the leg, so didn't think anything had popped out of socket. He suggested that it was a torn or stretched ACL.
It's just making me sick today. She's trying to follow me like always, and it's the most pitiful thing I have seen. She's on Metacam already for a horrible back. She was in so much pain a month ago. I had her at the vets, and the xray was a mess. She has vertebrae fussed together, and even one of those fussions had fractured.
Man I hope this is not it for her. She has been by my side as much as possible for the last 8+ years. I'd better take her to our favortie ice cream shop this afternoon. I'm tearing up just typing this. Any advice? We'll be going to the regular vet tomorrow. Looks like big money to me based on Google searches.

I would spend anything to keep my dogs going. If things are tight and you want to some help, I'm pretty sure that a lot of folks here would feel the same way I do. So say the word and I'll be the first to help out.

I had a dog blow out a acl, after surgery she was fine. Happened so long ago I dont remember the cost, couple hundred dollars though.

Being a lab mix, I assume she is pretty big. At that age hip dysplasia is not uncommon especially if she is a little overweight. Some dogs are genetically predisposed to the problem and depending of severity it can often be controlled with anti-inflammatories, weight control and proper exercise. I hope you regular vet can give you some insight. Hopefully it is not anything so serious that some rest, loving care and possibly anti-inflammatories can't help. I wish you her the best. I lost my boy Mack almost 12 months ago, I still miss him every day.

Had a Lab Mix many years ago and she had a similar experiance at age 5 chasing a squirrel. ACL torn. Vet did surgery and basically tied the ACL back together. Dog had a little bit of a stiff hind leg but was still able to chase her squirrel "friends". We were very fortunate that she was with us for several additional years until she was about 11. As I recall the surgery was around $1000 in the Dallas area.

Thanks for the comments, and special thanks to wolftat. No financial help needed, but REALLY appreciate the thought. I was raised on a farm where if you couldn't sell it, or eat it, it was wasting space. Good thing I was handy with a wrench and welder!!!!! That was the rule until my Dad hit 55 years old or so. It wasn't long after he got that dog that it was in the truck cab with him. I was about the same till we kept my daughter's pit bull for 6 months. That boy changed me. He would sit on the love seat next to me and we would watch ball games. He'd give me a lick after given a doggie treat, etc.....I had to get a good shop dog for myself after that. I'll see what happens at the vet tomorrow.

My six month old retriever mix, mix, mix, did that the wife took him to run in the park two minutes later he pulled up lame a fast trip to the vet and we were told he either tore or strained his ACL very unusual for a puppy his size fortunately for us and him three days of anti inflamatorys and he was bouncing around like normal? He is missing some nuts and bolts but loves wood
