Penn State isn't alone....there are a few things at CSUSA (like some of their drill bit sets) that appear so nearly identical to HF that it's silly. Even if they aren't coming from HF directly, they're surely coming from the same factories.

Now, that's not to say that woodturners are getting "ripped off". We're all free to shop around and patronize whichever business we want, nobody is forcing us.

Maybe someone lives far enough from Harbor Freight that they don't want to spend the $5 in gas, 45 minutes to/from the store, pay sales tax, and spend time in the store as well. If they're already placing an order from Penn State, they can get the drill bits, combine the shipping, and overall come out even - or, if you factor in their time, even cheaper than if they went to HF. Personally, I appreciate it when places like CSUSA and Penn State carry a wide variety.

But, if that's not the case, we're all welcome to drive over to HF. I would say that we're able to order from their web site... but that can take a LONG time for some things to arrive, so I don't think of it as a good option.

Have you seen some of the Junk Lee Valley had added???
I like Lee Valley and buy from them----you are just going to have to watch these folks closer now.

Is the set I gave a link to the same set as PSI's? There are little points on the HF set, and that's all I could find in a search. I need to buy a set and want to be sure I get the right ones.

Thanks,
Dale

original use

Thy are called transfer punches, thy are used to transfer the location of a existing hole on to another object, the Penn state ones don't have the points used to leave a mark.

Mike

Is that OK for pen disassembly? Seems the points might damage existing parts.

Dale

the points don't hurt any pen parts, if you have to remove the cap from a Baron or a gent, your going to knock out the button any way, DAMHIKT.

Let's see, points on the punches. Well I have a bench grinder, so there is no point to the points for me.

Now why didn't I think of that? Too obvious, I reckon. Ken, I sent a Retro cabachon flying across the room the other night with one of these, I think they're going to meet Mr. Benchy tomorrow...

Thanks guys,
Dale

Ken; Since I use transfer punches, I drilled holes in the flat end of the punch for the sizes that fit the Baron and Gents etc

I'd like to do a few with a matching top.
