Recently went to the doctor, and he asked what I do to destress after work. So I showed him a pen of course. He asked what I was doing to market them, and I said not much as I'm doing this as a hobby. He said if I could come up with a display that holds 2 to 4 pens upright so as to not take up too much desk space, and contain the pens so patients couldn't just pick them up, he'd gladly display them in his multiple offices. Usually after the exam, he moves the patients into his office into more comfortable setting to discuss various things. He said patients are always looking around while in there, and it would be a great place to showcase and perhaps sell some of my work. Any suggestions on a display that would fit his requirements? I'm not currently setup to do flatwork, so making my own is out of the question.

He shares offices with other doctors, in different cities, so it would need to be portable as well, as he would take it with him so it wouldn't walk off. That would also expose my work to a wider audience, including the doctors in the other offices.

Suggestions gladly accepted!
Cheers,
Draken

PS Sorry of the title was a bit misleading. ;)[}:)]

If you do a search on display, youll find a few ideas, make sure you check the archived box.

Until then here's one. There are many different sizes, just get a bigger one. If you mount it on the wall you wont use any of the docs space, plus its covered.

This is a shadow box with a statesman inside. The top has a hinged to open. It has hooks in back so it will hang on a wall, from the AC Moore. Quick paint job and its good to go. Its about 2" deep, glass is around 7 X 5 "

Penn State makes a Rosewood display box which holds 7 pens, and sells for around $10. You can get it for less through Ryan at Woodturningz, or Pens of Color. Makes a pretty fair display vehicle----I use these at craft shows to great advantage, as people tend to gravitate to pens displayed there as opposed to other methods. Hope this helps.

elody21 was selling corian and she was including a corian pen stand with the purchase. I don't know if she made them or not, but you might contact her and see if she can make you one. I think you might have a hard time finding one that will hold 2-4 pens. If she makes them she might be able to make one the size you want.

This shows the stand:

FYI, I have a couple of the display boxes from PSI and they are very nice for the price.

Here is my "stash" I keep at my desk. The box makes all the diffrence to keep the wife and kids out of my personal pens.

BTW, with a little bit of work, you may be able to install a key lock from Rockler on the front of the box. There is enough wood to do this I think.

Also, snuck in the photo (by accident) in my engine company from my firefighting days.. I am not showing, I am at the front corner as the driver operator of "my" pumper truck. [:D]

Here is the whole photo, oddly I only have a couple photos from those days. www.yankeetoys.org/lee/28073.jpg

Nawh, I mainly left them in so he could get an idea of how larger pens fit the box. I think this case (fitted with a lock) is a great option.

This one would work great, I think.. http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=9881

Now, I really like that. I'm going to get me a few.

Hey Lee, Is the item that your showing the Glass Top Display Gift Box, Code: PKBOXG, Price: $9.95? That's what I found on there website. If so, did the insert in yours come with it or did you make it yourself?

Les, the box was bought thru Woodturningz and is PKBOXG3. Honestly, the box is rather nice for the cost. It is much better than the "el-cheapo" fake red wood stuff you would think it is. The joinery is nice and tight, the hinges have a "open lid" stop at 90 degrees that kind of lock the lid open for display. The shipping is extra as it needs a large box, so plan on the $8.00 range there, but you may be able to get 2 in the box. Make sure you ask for the new design box, I think the older ones did not have the same hinge. If I am correct, the old one held 8, but was not as nice of a box.

The larger box type displays shown here are very similar to what I already have and are too large for my doctor's desk. I saw something at Levenger that would look good, holds 20 pens but holds them vertically so the footprint is minimal, but the cost is $75. The open pen stands, such as the one made of corian wouldn't work either as the pens would be more prone to walking and it isn't easy for him to transport from office to office. The other doctors he shares offices with are from different practices, so they aren't coworkers and he wouldn't feel comfortable leaving the display behind.

It is a great opportunity, just need to find the right stand for it! Thanks for the suggestions, and if there are any more, keep them coming.

Cheers,
Draken
