I clicked the link and watched the video....frightening.
I looked under related items and was drawn to a guy who hooked up a two man saw like lumberjacks use to his tractor....that led to a related video of someone who suped up a kid's powerwheels Escalade with a subwoofer...that led to a guy who suped up a powerwheels to go about 25 mpg.....that led to offroad powerwheels which led to a V8 on a go kart which led to go kart jumps which led to go kart flips and barrel rolls....then I had to cut myself off!!!
Man, it reminds me of my college years when I'd be procrastinating a project and just watch collegehumor.com videos all day. Oh the days!!
No one should be permitted to use a table saw who is under 40 and over 60. I have taken kickbacks in the head, chest, gut and both hands....no matter how careful I am. Now I try to use sleds with clamps whenever I can.
Still got the original 10 fingers I started with but they have been busted, cracked and cut, Guess I am lucky.....comes from being afraid of that saw.
A healthy respect (read fear) of anything that spins a cutting edge at 3000+ rpm is the most import thing one needs to keep all their fingers.
My dad taught me at an early age how to operate a saw and what not to do when operating one. Now if he had only taken the time to teach me the proper way to use a philips screwdriver without stabbing myself, I'd be set.
I bet they stop when they get tires, but yeah, all it takes is a one second distraction and buzt "where'd my fingers go"?
As long as you are aware or where your fingers are and keep the piece in contact with the small table, you're fine. But I'll let them do it while I use safer methods.
These videos are going to give me nightmares tonight.... I kept waiting for the guy pushing the log into that rusty dull blade to slip and take a head dive through himself.
I use a table saw, but they scare the bejeezus out of me and I'm acutely aware of where my hands and fingers are at all times. No closer than about 6 inches to that blade.
They scare the hell out of me, too.
The heat went out in my shop last weekend and it was in the low 40's. I was
cutting some delrin on the table saw and as I was cutting I saw my left hand
sliding towards the blade. I wasn't close, but then I realized that the cold had
taken away the feeling in my fingers .. not a good combination with power tools.
Your sense of feel is one of the things you rely on .. so it scared me enough to
skip the power tools till the heat came back on
