Disassebling a Diamond Knurl

Can a Diamond Knurl be disassembled and reassembled? Made a Diamond Knurl and barrel is too short by a hair less than a finger nail thickness. Mangled the mechanism and cap-clip getting it apart and want to know if there is a better way if I have the same problem come up again.
Or is there a fix for the adding to any barrel that is too short?

Yes, I've done it many times. Just unscrew the twist mechanism and remove it before proceeding with transfer punches.
