For those of you who have DirecTV and had them install it, did you have any problems with the installers showing up?

Our cable company got stupid with us and we told them where to go get un-stupid. So we ordered DirecTV. Took the day off to be here for installation, which was scheduled for 12-5. They called at 2pm and said he was running late and that it would be 4-6pm. No problem. We called at 6:15pm and were told 7-8:30pm. At 8:15 the installation geek calls and says he is just now leaving his and was on his way. ETA 2-2-1/2 hours. He is on the Illinois/Indiana border and we are in the middle of the state.

Called DirecTV to complain about their sub-contractor installation problem and they had the nerve to ask if I want to reschedule! Now why on earth would I want to go through this crap again. I told them no, if it takes the guy till sun-up to get it installed so be it. So for my frustrations they gave us a $100 credit on our bill.

So has anyone ever had a satalite dish installed in the middle of the night before?

Oh well the new high def lcd tv in the woodshop will make it better. Would you beleive that the exstended warranty covers dust and when we said what kind of enviroment it would be in they said that saw dust is still dust.

Thanks for letting me rant.....

Mike

Been there done that. Only good thing was the install did not take to long for us. We had him do 3 bedrooms and the living room. The installation we had was really a good job when it was all said and done. I actually felt for the guy when it was over. He was driving his own vehicle (beater no heat) and lived 2 hours away. Seems they overbook these guys and these guys take the heat. I actually apologized to him for being rude when he first got here when it was over.

When we had our Direct TV installed they were a day late but only because of a death in the family. Sorry to hear about your problems, but I think you will be happy with the service, every time there has ever been an issue they were right on top of taking care of it.

Good luck!

<br />I've just gotta ask...... WHY? Why a tv in the shop? Man, my shop is my santuary awaw from the world.

When finish the day's business at the hardware store we will work at home in the shop, sometimes until 11pm and most all day on Saturday and some Sundays. There are many things that we make for the hardware store. The pens we make are actually the "enjoyable" part of our woodworking. So if we did not have the TV out there we would miss the news, loose track of time, (11 O'clock news come on we close up the shop) and Linda is a huge football nut and would not come out to the shop during the season!

Without the TV we would loose most contact from the outside world and become nothing more than shop rats![:p]

Yep directv did that to me about 7 years ago.. I kept there service for the year contract then dropped them and went to dishnetwork.. I have had them ever since and never had a problem with them..

No Cav, Linda LOVES football. She is a fantasy football nut. She use to like basketball too but did not want to go to the state pen to watch the Pacers play so we have not watched a game in a couple years.[:(] She is a shop rat, she loves to go to Rockler, she is NOT your typical house wife. I could not have gotten any luckier.

Update: 12:35am.....
Dish is on the roof....cable ran in the attic....splitter box installed....Now all we need to do is hook-up all the dvrs and cable boxes. Should be done by 1:30am. [:0]

Good to hear it's done. I personally would NOT go back to regular cable. I get 150 channels (package I have) and have always been able to find something on to watch. Plus the NFL network, which cable doesn't offer. Only problems I have had is when there is a huge thunder head over the house we may lose reception for about 10 minutes. With cable when the wind blew wrong it was out for hours. Plus the Dish is cheaper than the cable was. Thank God for technology or I would still be getting up to change the channel with a turn dial. LOL... remember everytime you turned to one of the 13 channels (only 11 of them had something on) it made than big thunk noise. I think I was born to be my parents remote when growing up.

Sir William, I love football too. I also love watching High Stakes Poker and World Series of Poker. I love going to and or looking thru any wooodworking catalog! Cheers!

BTW, we have DishNetwork. Had Direct TV but a DishNetwork subcontractor opened business about 15 miles from us. DirectTV was about 2 hours away [B)]

We have DirecTV and have had it for 11 years. Never a problem with them. I installed it myself ( back then you bought all the equipment and either had them come out or do it yourself) and have done all the upgrades myself. We now have a DVR in the bedroom and a HD/DVR(we have HD service, the only way to enjoy a LCD) in the family room hooked up with the theater system. I rarely get rain fade. I've got my signal strength dialed into 98% most of the time.
You will be happy with their service. If you have a question or something isn't working properly, they will take care of it. Even if it requires new equipment.

"Lind?????" This one belongs in the IAP Hall of Fame. WD "THE HUMAN SPELL CHECKER" Cav made a spelling error in one of his posts! Ohhhh the humanity!! [:0][:0][:0]

Oh my, Cav made a spelling error?? I have to go get some firewood, I know there's a big snowstorm coming. [:D]

But I have a question, Doc. You're spell checking Cav at 4:23 AM???

Tommy ..... this is really personal .. and highly confidential. But, when I first joined IAP, I was asked by the mods to monitor Cav's every move in the forum.[;)] At 4:20 this morning I was sound asleep when I awoke in a cold sweat. I immediately went to IAP and sure enough ... there was that post from Cav that I, somehow, had overlooked. As you can tell, I am quite a vigilant person! (Plus, I must lead a rather pathetic life if I'm reading IAP posts at 4 in the morning!)[V]

Just to join in on the thread. A few months ago I bit the bullet to get rid of the dreaded Comcast increases with thier crappy service. So went to SBC/ATT to sign up for dish with them. Very attractive contract which reduced my cable cost and was included on my phone bill. Had to give up some of my phone benifits to comply with the Dish requirements. Scheduled the installation, was called with a two hour window. installer called and said he would be a "little" late. Ok, no problem. Three hours later I ran him off of the property. Called SBC/ATT and cancelled the Dish. Cost me about $20 a month extra cause the benifits I had enjoyed for the phone were not now available. Curses!
Just had Directv install the satilitte? and will never look back. I even got the Dallas/Packers game. Yeah, the guy drove up in a beater. Told me about the overscheduling and that he makes about 60K a year so it was worth it to him. Old Beater---60K? I don't know but the dish is worth it IMHO. BTW, The Pack was my favorite team that week!
Have a great week-end.
Vern

Sigh, you are both right, but there is a reason![B)]

First off, yes Tommy I got the damn snowstorm last night, thank you very much!!!!![8D]

Second, I now know why I have the constant feeling of someone looking over my shoulder when I am on the forum! [8]

Let's just say that Mike's wonderful, woodworking, football watching wife (who is likely just as wonderful and awesome as Becca) shares a name with someone from my past which makes the spelling, much less the pronunciation of said name interesting when accidentally said to SHMBF&O!!!!![:0][:0][:0]

BTW Al, that cold sweat? Be afraid, be very afraid. [}:)][}:)][;)]
