I bought a tach since I want to understand what speeds work best with what I turning or milling. I paid about $16 including delivery and am very pleased with it. It comes with a case, battery! and length of reflective tape. Cut a small 1/4" piece of the tape and affix to the spindle you want to measure. Point and shoot the laser until it reads to RPMs on the spindle. Reads up to 10,000rpm so it's pretty handy. FYI a nice addition to your workshop.
