I was watching it for a while...then backed out after it exceeded my limit [B)] which is less than half of how much it ended for.

I didn't get that one but got this one, hopefully will be close to what that one looks like.

Janet :)

Wow, Janet those are nice too. Those will be stunning.
I had the thought in my head that it would take about $60 to win the other auction. Bad enough I was fighting with myself but my wife chimed in and told me I should get them, whatever they cost. Hard to save money with her around.[;)]
Not me either, but the blanks I have bought from Joel (eganlaw) have been great, and he is generous with his extras.

Glad to hear that. One almost needs a score card to keep track of the wood sellers on eBay. Some are great, sadly some are rip-off artists.
Janet,
Are you going to paint on that wood?

This wood speaks for itself, I would never paint on wood with this much attitude [:D] I will show you a picture of the finished pens ok.

Have a fantastic holiday [:)]

I was worried there for a minute.[:D]

I never saw the original since I hardly ever look at wood on eBay, but after seeing that William recommends this seller, I found this one and got it.

I've purchased from Joel and have been happy with his wood, and also purchased quite a bit from Koa Wood--shipping is higher, but he does include some nice extras.

Anyway, I have a question---I've used some nice Lama (Hawaiian Ebony), which has been very solid and nice wood to work with. I haven't turned the Signature wood---does anyone have a comparison to the two for turning?? Are they both a good solid wood to work with or is one softer than the other (I know spalting can vary, so this may be a difficult question)?? Just let me know your experience--thanks!!!

I've found that Lama (Hawaiian Ebony) is a tree usually growing about 25 feet tall and 14 inches in diameter---but, I don't know any information about Signature?? They look similar in the photos.

The person who bought this auction, put this pen up for auction too.

That was the best spalt I've seen.

Hi to all, I wanted to comment on the Lama (Hawaiian Ebony) and the Signature wood. Lama is Endemic to Hawaii and grows nowhere else in the world, it is a hard wood and is white when you cut the tree and later will spault nicly, some Lama if the tree had an injury while it was growing will have black just like ebony and it is rare to find Lama like that. The Signature wood is from a tree called Autograph tree (Clusia rosea) this tree is from west India but grows as a weed in Hawaii, the wood is a cream to white color when it is cut down and then spaults to get the fantastic colors you see. I think the Lama is a harder wood than the Signature but not much, Lama is also a Rare Hawaiian wood and hard to get, the Signature is easy to get. I hope this helps.
