Here are some pics from a piece of the Desert Ironwood haul I got a couple of months ago. I was over at Jasonr's and he said to try out his new carbide blade so we did. It cut like the ironwood was pine and the surface of the wood actually appeared as though it had gone through a planer. I have pictures here with DNA on them to bring out the grain for you to see hope you like them. I am still figuring out what to do with this much ironwood. The first pic is before the dna was applied and the 4th pic is the same piece with dna.

You are totally right! No shame in my game! Those pens are beautiful! Your ironwood looks alot different than mine. Yours looks almost like burl compared to my pieces. I only have two, and they are more straight line grain kinda deal.

Most of the pieces were from a crotch piece and finding this grain was a nice surprise to us. Thanks for the comments

Nice pieces! You're pretty fortunate to live so close to where the wood grows!

When we go out west, we make a point to stay in quartzsite at least a day then do some driving around and have found some really nice pieces there. It amazes me how some people look at it as just junk wood. One fellow had a beautiful log stacked up with other logs next to his chimenia ready to burn!
