Nothing Ventured…Nothing Gained…

ALL Suggestions / Comments encouraged ... I'm always open to learning a better way...

After all the discussions and the Tutorial on TBC from George aka Texatdurango and new live center from Johnnycnc there was no reason not to take the first step…

George talked about a bushing for centering/squaring the ends – sounded like a good idea to me... I didn't take photos for that process, but it is straight forward…7mm hole drilled all the way through...

Having never turned Delrin before I was a bit concerned… but it was no big deal… very easy to turn…

Pic 1 & 2: I had already used Center Drill before these pics… I didn't even know what a Center Drill was until George's tutorial… :)

Pic 3: Skew used to take ¾" Delrin rod down to largest bushing diameter…

Pic 4: Checking final measurements…

My first set of bushings shown in pic 10 were made only slightly longer than standard sets…after thinking about it I decided to make the second set longer…they can always be cut down…

From a structural standpoint it made sense to me to have as much "support" as practical "inside" the tube…I believe it will stabilize turning between centers…
But since I haven't TBC before… what do I know… :)

Pic 5: Shows linear dimensions used for final bushings…

It took me a while to figure out "best practices" while making "two bushings" at once…I didn't want to chance not hitting dead center by flipping the Delrin around and then drilling…First turn rod down to OD size of largest bushing...Turning two at one time this way makes sense to me...

Pic 6: Two bushing turned and measured… Parting off the first one…

Pic 7: Dead Center drilling for next bushing…

Pic 8: Parting off second bushing…

Pic 9: Finished product for Gran Tornio…

Pic 10: Finished product for Elegant Sierra…

HEY… the bushing are TIGHT, they "POP" when you pull them out… :):)

Next week I get STEB and Center Tools from George…

I'm anxious to take the next step…Turning Between Centers…

Learning from the Pros…on this forum...Thanks guys/gals...

Ed

P.S. Jeff helped me change my User Name: from enj@austin.rr.com to NOAH…that's my middle name…in case you don't recognize the name... :)

I don't think my brain is functioning properly tonight.:frown:

Could you explain what the pieces at the bottom of photos 9 and 10 are?

Lenny...
The long bushing is for holding a 7mm Pen Mill for squaring up the blank and tube before turning...this is more accurate than having pen mill shaft rattling around the tube...
The shorter bushings are substitutes for the standard metal bushings, but have a 60 degree hole drilled in each end for live and dead centers for turning between centers...
Does that help...?
