My name is Bill and I am a 64 year old retiree who is semi capable of using a computer. I live in Macomb Mi and have a pretty complete woodworking/turning shop set up but am always willing to learn from other craftspersons. This is my first effort at joining a forum so I hope I can gain some computer protocol knowlege without much embarassment or messing up something. I have been turning pens and small projects for quite some time, but I am just getting started in turning celtic knot pens. I made one for my grandaughter that turned out well enough to make me want to make more, but it also highlighted the fact that I need to practice the techniques before claiming any degree of competency. Right now I am interested in making the "deli slicer" jig used in an on line video to slice very thin segments for celtic knot inserts. The celtic knot jig is pretty straight forward, but the deli slicer is less clearly illustrated.

Looking forward to turning some wood and having some fun.

welcome from about 10 miles east. There are a few here that live closer to you. The Michigan chapter of IAP is a very active group, look us up in the local chapter forums. If you need any help with the site or pen making, feel free to pm or request a phone call by pm.
If you haven't already, please add your zip code to your profile.

Welcome Bill. Some time ago I did a tutorial here. My slicer allows you to make thin kerf cuts on a table saw.

Can you post a link to the video you saw? I am always interested in new ideas. I started on a new version of the slicer for the band saw, but there are still a few kinks to work out.
