Rob Doyle of Bad Dog Burls keeps plying us with BBQ. Two clubs had a meeting at his place yesterday. He just got in a huge shipment of mostly Mallee caps with a mix of other cool stuff. I grabbed a few Red Mallee caps and turned one today.

Slightly different style than my first, only the rim is natural edge this time. the "bowl" part is around 3 1/2" (9 cm) across. Finished with Bush Oil.

That would be a dangerous place for me to go. Kinda like a wood turner club meeting tomorrow where illness forces sale of someones inventory. A kid in the candy store with $5.

Nice bowl...........that is if it holds water! Nice art if it doesn't.

You did a real nice job. I have turned Brown mallee and it was very dangerous to the knuckles. Those little spikes can really catch you if you aren't careful.
What is Bush oil?

Thanks everyone, it hold water so I guess its a bowl! I've been turning a series of winged / natural edge stuff lately and this is the first piece to draw blood! Just a few drops from a small scratch, those little spikes are sharp!

Cindy, Bush Oil is a BLO based finish with a bunch of other stuff

It is lighter color than typical BLO so does not color shift as strongly.

The last time I was there my wallet was much lighter than when I first walked in. He have some very nice pieces of wood. Does he still have that huge piece of Amboyna?

I did not look for big stuff, I had to leave fast, I had tickets to a play. Just grabbed a few burl caps and some other small stuff.
