fresh can of Silmar 41 will be here Friday. Forecast for Friday is 71, temp Saturday (first chance I'll have to be in the shop) is expected to be in the 50s.

So how can I do some casting with the temp that low guys? I'm getting tired of waiting for the conditions to be right.

If you've got a pressure pot, you're all set.
Warm the molds, warm the resin. Pour outside, put it in the pressure pot
to keep the smell where it is. Bring the pot inside where it is warm. Just
don't OPEN it inside..

Barring that, get a decent sized tupperware container that will hold the
mold. Same as above.. seal the container and bring it in. Nobody should
smell anything if you've closed it up.

Alumilite in the house works great!

I feel sorry for your family and pets...

It will be fine with 50's. It will just longer to gel and cure.
I've cast below freezing and left it in the shop. It took a couple days, but it cured.
If your casting clear, it will gel and cure quicker.

Put foil on top of the firebrick, your molds on top of the foil. If you are careful, you should be able to do a little slumping while the resin cures. :)

But Dawn, then I'd have to move the kiln outside. It lives in the basement and the odor know how to climb stairs.

I'll give the Tuperware a try. I think we have one that will work.....

i have successfully casted in 40 degree weather, just took about a day to harden is all

Yeah, so do I, the difference is that, the gauge needle is pointing to the right and over the (+) sign...!:wink::biggrin:

You guys give me chills from talking about those temps like if was nothing too important...! well, maybe not for most of you but still, I get that chill sensation over my spine that puts the hairs up in the back of my head...!:)

Cheers
George

Pour the molds outside, put the molds in gallon sized zip lock bags and bring them inside. If you like, you can inflate the bags slightly with warm air from a hair dryer. The warm air will help with curing and keep the top if the zip lock off of the top of the mold.

When you get ready to de-mold. Open the bags outside and leave the bags outside until the PR smell is gone.

Nothing wrong with that. Just cover the cast and add some heat such as a single light bulb.
