Hey All,

I am hoping some of you PR experts can help me. I am wondering if PR will cure without the use of the MEKP. I was thinking that since the MEKP reacts and cures it with heat, cant I just put it in an oven and heat it to cure?

Please let me know if this will work and if so, what temp would you recomend? And....how long?

Thanks,
Steve

The oven will cure it, but it will take longer and it will cure from the outside.
The catalyst (MEKP) is mixed into the resin, so it cured all through at the
same time. (some say from the inside out, not sure if that's accurate or not)

If you leave a can too close to a heat source, it'll cure. If you just leave it
long enough, it'll cure.

oops.. sorry, forgot the temp and time.

um .. I dunno. I know I can finish off a cure by throwing it in an old toaster
oven for an hour (on warm) but that's just firming up the outside.

Check the MSDS for your product. The flashpoint for vapors is generally around 86 degrees... Putting freshly poured PR in an oven is not a good idea. Final curing (after it has gelled and mostly through with the exothermic reation) is okay in a toaster oven dedicated for the shop. No oven should be used for food after it has had these chemicals in them.

Thanks for the warning. I will check the flash point. I have a full sized oven in my shop that is used for Powder Coating, boiling blanks....etc...

Thanks,
Steve
