Reading about all the fun you guys have with casting stuff in PR! Decided to give it a try. Made myself a block of coffee-bean PR. Next step was to turn a pen. First blank exploded :mad-tongue: Second one survived. Lots and lots of thin CA soaked into the blank as I turned it down. Also soaked the inside before gluing and ends before starting. I think that made a difference.
Came out pretty well but I can definitely do better with more practice. Oh, and all of this was done with a 1" skew. The funny bit down near the nib end that looks like hazed up CA isn't. It is some sanding slurry that mixed in with still wet CA. Too close to the end of the blank, I chickened out and didn't try to turn it down a bit more. I think somebody suggested using ground coffee as the fill for voids in the beans. I just kept pouring in CA this time.:smile-big:
FYI, I have more of the block to cut up, sized for making Sierra (Gatsby, Monet, etc). See post in the classified for maybe some trading.
